Receiving Jesus into our midst

This Advent, I am preparing spiritually for the joyful celebration of the birth of Our Savior, by being grateful for the blessings God has bestowed upon my life. My prayer this Advent is for peace and justice in a society where not everyone enjoys the blessings I have. In particular, I reflect on the Holy Family, a migrant family who, like many who come to the United States, was forced to flee their homeland in search of refuge. This make me aware that I am called to advocate for migrants today. Jesus was a young migrant fleeing the violence ordered by King Herod not unlike many of our migrant brothers and sisters who face threats of violence and persecution today. Jesus is alive today in the person of every migrant and refugee and He is crying out to be received and loved. This Advent, as I wait for the birth of Our Savior, I also keep prayerful vigil and have faith that our migrant and refugee families will experience justice and peace.
