What are we really waiting for?

This time one year ago I shared a reflection on the things I was waiting for:

  • the end of finals season
  • going back home to Texas after finishing my first semester at Maryland
  • a job offer to work as a missionary in the summer
  • countless other things of various levels of importance.

A year later, those things have all passed, and they were good. Those seasons have come and gone, and as new seasons approach, I am left reflecting on the one constant amongst all of this coming and going – striving to model a lifestyle of worship and embracing love of the Father.

Advent is a time of waiting…but on what? I saw God move my heart in countless ways in the last year, and each new opportunity revealed His grace, again and again. The things I wait for on earth, though, are merely preparation for the one thing my heart truly desires-that divine gift of eternal life in heaven. My faith and pursuit of this one goal influences how I prepare for everything else in this life. My prayer is that as we each prepare for this New Year, we might find peace in waiting, knowing that the joy to come is eternal.
